The newly created Information Commons provides an environment for group work, reflection, and collaboration. Students working on group assignments can pull up comfortable seats to discuss, plan and execute assignments that demonstrate their talents and skills. There are current periodicals near by to browse and help with brainstorming. They also have access to the Help Desk if they run into any difficulty while working a wireless laptop.
The new Information Commons was developed by the staff in the library to meet the needs of today’s diverse learners. Some students are sensing learners; they are oriented to concrete, practice facts and processes. Some are visual learners; they are drawn to visual presentations, pictures, and diagrams that can be viewed on a laptop. Some students may be active learners that learn best by trying things out and working with others; while some students are reflective learners that may enjoy working alone. Students who visit the Library should find the environment conductive to their type of learning style. Things are changing in the Learning Resource Center (LRC). Change means progress.
